If you didn't already know, we also grow alpacas at Goodness Farm - not for eating, unlike our organic fruit and veg!
And while we haven't managed to train them to plant seeds or pick veg (yet), they do come in very handy in other ways.
This past weekend we've been shearing them - the process of removing the fleece that has grown over the past few months, to lighten to load on the alpacas, in time for the warmer weather.
These fleeces are then laid out to dry. Some of them are fit for spinning - turning that fleece into wonderfully soft wool for knitting and crochet. Some of the fibres won't work for that process, but are perfect for the garden. We take that fleece and mulch it into the soil, helping to keep the moisture in and the weeds out.
